The von Rosenberg family emigrated from Germany in 1849 and settled near Round Top, Texas. Carl Wilhelm ("William") von Rosenberg moved to Austin, Texas in 1856 and served as draftsman in the General Land Office. He served in the Confederate forces and later had a land agency in Austin. Ernst Johann von Rosenberg (William's third son) became a draftsman in the General Land Office in 1876 and served continuously until his death in 1915.
